Description
Genuine early war enlisted type visor cap having pink piping for a Panzer unit. De cap was, as often seen, upgraded to officer grade with a bullion chin strap. The cap remains void of major damages and/or moth damages. Has a very attractive ‘crusher’ shape. Complete with original insignia on the front of the cap. The liner is complete and solid. Shows the size mark ’57’. Maker marked on the reverse of the sweat band to F. Weissbach in 1939. Unit marked to Panzerabwehr-Abteilung 7, part of the 7th infantry division.
After the Polish campaign, the division was moved west. From May 10, 1940, it took part in the French campaign. The division advanced through Leuven and Tournai into the Scheldt (Schelde) sector and then took part in the Battle of the Scheldt/Lys (Schelde/Leie) (Flanders, Belgium). The division then crossed the Lys (Leie) and fought for Lille. After France, the division remained in northern France as an occupation force. In April 1941, the division was moved to the General Government. From June 22, 1941, the division took part in the Russian field.
