From my personal collection: Extremely rare and desirable genuine early-war produced iconic army Panzer beret in excellent, worn, condition. Original and period machine applied insignia up front in zig-zag stitching. Inner crash helmet is complete with rubber vent holes (a few missing, some also still have the cork fillers inside). Now here comes the interesting part; It is maker marked by Uniformmützenfabrik Wilhelm Wethekam, Dresden but also has a stamp of E. Reitz Uniformwerke Antwerpen, a German uniform factory located in occupied Belgium. It is still a mystery why it has two stamps. My opinion, it was made by W. Wethekam and distributed by E.Reitz later. The beret is dated on the reverse of the sweatband M40 (1940) and size marked 58. The beret cover has its typical weave pattern and is complete with the small tassel on top. Inside shows what I believe are museum/depot markings. Overal very good condition. A stunning centerpiece for any collection!
