Description

Ultra rare Kriegsmarine summer (tropical) officer Feldbluse for a Korvettenkapitän, being a signals engineer (explains the war merrit medal ribbon) with Festung Lorient sleeve shield original applied. The shield is a classic German ID disk, specially made for the Kriegsmarine unit in Lorient, some of the stitches are loose. The tunic is complete with should boards and Kriegsmarine officer breast eagle. The jacket is made by F.Engel, Hadersleben a uniform company in Denmark that still exists today! Comes with the original matching officer breeches in good condition.

“Festung Lorient”  (“Fortress Lorient”)  was a very important German submarine-base and naval strongpoint in World War Two. It is famous because of its HUGE submarine bunker ( “Ubootbunker”). Because of its importance for the German Kriegsmarine, it was fortified to the highest level. The entire town was surrounded by coastal batteries, anti-aircraft batteries, radarstations, infantry positions – all in fortress-standard bunkers. It was only captured by the Allies after fierce fighting in 1944 / 45.

The tunic was once part of the ‘Bender’ collection in USA, and the shield was already published in reference books.

Although some people do not agree, knowing the wearabouts from this jacket we still firmly believe this jacket is genuine: Kriegsmarine summer tunic to a Korvettenkapitän, ‘Festung Lorient – Wehrmacht-Awards.com Militaria Forums
