Genuine and hard to find M43 field cap for SA Wermannschaft. The cap is complete with its original (hand) applied SA flatwire eagle on the front. The interior shows a manufacturing stamp that is hard to read but I believe it says LL. Gen. Mützen – Niedersachsen – Hersteller Nr. 81. Below it has a faded size marked ’57’ and on top is is dated ‘E44’ (1944). A beautiful and seldom encountered field cap.
A special Hitler decree of 19.1.139 charged the SA with the pre- and post-military training of the entire male population between the ages of 18 and 65 to include those considered unfit for military duty. As a result the SA-Wehrmannschaften was created. It was an SA-controlled compulsorily conscripted home guard made up of fomer members of the Hitler Youth partially disabled but still considered fit for service plus older men not yet called up for military service. In addition to training, it was also responsible as a co-ordinating agency for political defence organisations and the allocation of personnel to Heimatflak, Stadtwacht and Landwacht.
