Army (Heer) infantry parade Waffenrock for Oberfeldwebel I.R.68

Description

Beautiful and well preserved white piped army Infanterie Waffenrock. Complete with all of its original insignia. The former owner found the breast eagle in the pocket an reattached it to the tunic. The shoulder boards show kompanie buttons marked ’10’ and they match with the stamp inside the liner ‘Geprüft 10. J.R. 68’, which means accepted for the 10th company of Infantry Regiment 68. The tunic is void of major damages. The liner, made out of green silk shows no wear and remains in excellent condition.

The III. The regiment’s battalion was only formed during the mobilization for World War II in the summer of 1939. The regiment was then deployed in the Polish campaign at the start of World War II as part of the 23rd Infantry Division. After the Polish campaign, on January 21, 1940, the 2nd Battalion was transferred from the regiment as the 1st Battalion from the 511 Infantry Regiment. This transfer was then immediately replaced. On October 7, 1940, the III. Battalion from the regiment as the 1st battalion from the 418th Infantry Regiment. This levy was then also replaced. At the beginning of the summer of 1941, the regiment took part in the attack on Central Russia as part of the 23rd Infantry Division in the eastern campaign. Because of the heavy losses in the winter of 1941/42, the regiment was merged into a battalion from December 20, 1941 to July 4, 1942 to form the IR 68 combat group. Between September 14th and October 22nd, 1942, the regiment was subordinate to the 26th Panzer Division. On November 27, 1942, the regiment was renamed Fusilier Regiment 68.
