Description
For my personal collection: Untouched stunning Luftwaffe ‘Flieger’ visor cap having yellow piping. This particular hat was made in Belgium, most likely Flanders having a typical foreign/Flemish made construction and classic Flemish-made Luftwaffe eagle. The hat is named and unit marked with field post number L55359 which refers to Flieger-Regiment 53, that was actually located in Belgium (Tongeren) during the war and became a FJ unit in later stages. It is marked Brüssel (Brussels) so the regiment must have been in this part of Belgium as well during the war. This of course makes sence that Gefreiter Brix Hans, bought this hat at a local tailor shop. A very nice untouched piece that has been in my collection for more than 10 years!
53 Flieger Regiment
The regiment was formed in Straubing on April 1, 1939 and renamed Flieger-Regiment 53 in November 1941. In 1941 it was transferred to Tongeren to the Belgium-Northern France Air Gau Command. Here it was reinforced to three battalions. In August 1944 it was renamed the Luftgau-Feld-Regiment Belgium-Northern France. On September 5, 1944, it was used to set up a paratrooper division.
