M40 Army/Waffen-SS ‘Rautarn’ rough camouflage helmet Q64

Description

Very attractive mid war produced M40 helmet by Quist. The maker mark of Quist on the left side indicates this helmet has a decal, but it is hidden under the thick camouflage paint. It could either have been an SS or Army helmet, but it is impossible to see because of the thickness of the camouflage paint. The helmet was camouflaged during the war, having received a rough field green paint job. The liner is in good condition and still has a replacement draw string present. Original split pins are present, but look replaced. The liner band is dated 1943 and the leather remains supple and strong. The liner is a genuine example but looks replaced. The helmet is marked Q64 and the lot number remains hidden under the thick paint. It is named in the rear to Borfert. A stunning and very desirable ‘Rautarn’ helmet!
