Werhmacht tropical ‘Afrikakorps’ first pattern pith helmet by JHS

Description

Hard to find first pattern pith helmet as worn by members of the German Afrikakorps and in other tropical regions such as Italy and Greece. Executed in tan colored canvas (and not felt like the 2nd pattern). Complete with a matching set insignia on both sides of the helmet. One prong of the tricolor shield is broken. Full length chin strap is present and remains in good condition. The sweat band is size marked 57 and dated 1942. Maker marked by JHS and also stamped ‘Made In Germany’ which is most likely a post-war stamp when these hats were sold to the public in the years after the war, as many of them were captured in bulk. Much harder to find than the second pattern in executed in felt. A solid pith helmet in nearly unworn – near mint condition!
